Bioflavanoids skin protection against aging

Procyanidins and hair follicle growth: Procyanidin Oligomers selectively and intensively promote proliferation of mouse hair epithelial cells in vitro and activate hair follicle growth in vivo.

Bioflavanoids skin aging : Bioflavanoids role in curbing cutaneous inflammation and skin aging has been recognized through their scavenging activity combating free radicals and tempering oxidative stress. Other studies on human keratinocytes have suggested role of aglycans and glycosylated flavanoids in prevention of photoaging and offsetting skin damages precipitated by UV irradiation. Flavanoids extracts have been widely used in anti aging skin care products for their anti oxidant properties as well as acne skin care since oxidative stress has been recognized in pathophysiology of inflammatory acne. Free radicals damage has been known in deterioration of connective tissue fibers of collagen, which explains utilization of flavanoids in dermal repair whether for anti aging purposes or acne scar treatment. Another aspect of applicability of flavanoids seem to be related to their beneficial dynamism in health of capillaries which in one way or another affects dermal repair as well as attenuation of leaky capillaries involved in puffy eye treatment.

One study forcibly suggest beneficial impact of flax proteins and linseed extract in wound healing for their anti inflammatory and anti oxidant activity which instigate its use in applications in which dermal repair substantiate such as acne scars. Among cell components the most vulnerable to UV irradiation, oxidative damage and reactive oxygen species is cell membrane with highest level of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Rutin, a biologically active flavonoid and a polyphenol compound with anti oxidant activity, with accelerated penetration through the skin upon sun exposure, contribute to maintenance of higher level of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione with well known effect of neutralizing ROS. This rutin viability in the skin upon sun exposure may warrant its use in an anti aging sunscreen or age defying product for day use.
